When we decided to create a new model and colorlab handle each year, it brought me back to my sculpture days. I loved the idea of revealing new work to the audience. It was so exciting and special. That's a huge part of Feder Knives and our new series. It ties together everything I love about creating: form contrasting with function, color and materials. When I started the colorlab handles, I was drawn to the contrast of bright colors with black. It created stories and allusions to outer space. As if you're looking up at the stars or imagining passing by the rings of Saturn. 'Cosmic Drift' captures that snapshot of lingering through the cosmos. I also wanted to make companion pieces to former series. This isn't just a "new Neptune Sunrise". Cosmic Drift will bring different styles that complement your set; not just a change of color. I’m very very pleased to release the first of the Cosmic Drift series; our hidden tang chef's knife with our new colorlab handle. 

 Hidden tang means the transit from the blade is a narrow bar that fits into the handle. Full tang is when you see the entire profile of the knife in steel and the handle scales are riveted on.

 This hidden tang knife is light and feels great in the hand. The profile has the tip of the knife ending higher on the centerline of the blade giving a more rocking motion. I created a swoop of steel on the spine to give more material behind the tip so it wouldn’t be a super thin needle at the end. With the extra material over the tip it has more rigidity at the end of the knife.

 The handle is laminated G10 which is similar to fiberglass. It holds its color great and will last up over time. The blade is high carbon AEBL Stainless that has excellent edge retention.”
